Episode 48 - James Allen from Cultras Football Podcast - LCD Soundsystem, Sound of Silver.

“Who are ya?! Who are ya?! Who are ya?!"

I'm William Hann, host of the music podcast “THIS Album...” thanks for asking.

For Episode 48, I'm joined by a man so passionate about football that he's actually created an award-nominated football podcast about it. From Cultras, it's the brilliant James Allen!

Jesus, where do I start?

James is a comedian, broadcaster, writer and actor, and it was an absolute joy to be welcomed into his home to discuss one of the greatest indie electronic albums of all time: LCD Soundsystem's groundbreaking second album, Sound of Silver.

Widely regarded as one of the defining New York albums of the 2000s, Sound of Silver is a genuinely remarkable record. In this humble podcaster's opinion, it might just be the greatest album ever made. So yes, this is a BIG episode.

We explore the themes that make LCD Soundsystem's Sound of Silver such a timeless and influential album, including hedonism, loss, friendship, growing up, gentrification, hipster culture, escape and identity. James Murphy's songwriting combines humour, emotional honesty and an extraordinary level of intelligence, creating a record that remains as relevant today as it was when it arrived in 2007.

Or at least, that's what we should have discussed.

Instead, we end up talking about getting high on lemon sips, Liverpool's magnificent Ecru away kit from the 1990s, regional table tennis tournaments on the Wirral and pretty much everything in between.

If you're a fan of LCD Soundsystem, alternative music, indie electronic music, football, comedy or wonderfully ridiculous conversations, this one's for you.

Best enjoyed at home, late at night.

Enjoy Episode 48 of THIS Album...!
