Mini Episode - Project Glastonbury 2027

Episode 85 of “THIS Album…” with William Hann is a Glastonbury festival special. If you talk it, it will come?

Does that work?

Who knows? Who cares?!

One thing I do care about though, is making sure that I'm on the line up at Glastonbury 2027, either DJing somewhere or doing a live version of the podcast there.

So I've released a cheeky little bonus episode talking it into existance.

I also give my thoughts on some of the acts that I want to see on Worthy Farm in 2027.

Hello and welcome to this album with me William Ham.

Now, normally it's the podcast where each episode a guest and I would deep dive an album of their choice.

But this isn't an ordinary episode because this is a Glastonbury solo episode.

0:34

I'm sort of joined by my dog Womble, a particularly senior Shih Tzu, but she's not much of A guest in an audio format.

But this is your first time listening to the podcast.

I I would say go back, don't start here.

We've got amazing episodes with the likes of Ivor Graham, we've got Felix White, we've got Jamie Webster.

0:52

That was a really good episode.

Christopher MacArthur Boyd, Arctic Monkeys specials on Arctic Monkeys specials and Arctic.

It's very Arctic Monkeys heavy this podcast.

And if you go back about 12 months, there's a whole bunch of Glastow specials where me and mates talk about Glastonbury, past, present, future debriefs.

1:10

It's loads of stuff.

It's really good gear.

So maybe try that.

There's some good stuff out there.

And also, while I'm at it, doing a bit of a formal intro for the podcast, why don't you be nice and give me a five star review.

I'm not begging for it, but apparently it makes a real big difference.

So yeah, gives a chicky 5 star.

1:26

That'll be class.

So I want to do a sort of podcast to launch Project Glastonbury 2027.

I'm properly determined to make sure that I'm like officially on the line up of as many festivals as possible really, but definitely Glastonbury.

1:45

So I always think there's like tiny little bars and stuff where DJs are playing, but they're not like anyone, you know?

I mean, they're not famous or like, I don't think this must be mates of the bookers or something, or like play in a local pub somewhere.

I don't know.

I don't know how it works, genuinely don't.

But I am determined to make sure that I'm on there next year.

2:04

So two ways I want to do it right on a DJ in a small bar or a, dare I say, a big one.

And I think as the podcast grows, I'm getting more eyes on what I do.

That's not an unachievable thing.

And some of the most magical moments at Glastonbury are like at some tiny bar where you and your mates slide in and suddenly someone's blasting out a bango and you go running towards it and you don't go anywhere else for the rest of the evening.

2:28

You're locked in.

You'd probably even look at who the DJ is, but you're just so locked in, in the moment with your mates in a random bar and it's like, that's just some guy.

I could be a girl, but it's always a guy.

It's always a guy, and I'm a guy.

I can do that.

So like, yeah, this is me putting it out into the world.

2:44

Project lasting me. 2027 starts here.

I'm determined to do that so I can properly.

DJI used to mix on a pair of 12/10.

So I could do like dance music, I could do Electro and disco and stuff.

But the bread and butter really is the indie stuff, indie disco.

So if you're listening, then when you book Glastonbury, fucking this is it.

3:03

All right, let's have, let's have that conversation because that's the thing, I do genuinely think at Glastonbury there is actually not enough sort of indie music.

It's obviously pretty well represented throughout most of the festival and then come evening time it's just the most over the top bass music which I love.

3:21

For the record, I'm well into it, but most of my mates aren't.

So we're at a loss most evenings trying to find somewhere to hear, you know, The Strokes or Arctic Monkeys bangers.

And there's few and far between places that can do that at Glastonbury.

So I'm going to bring that.

Let me DJ somewhere at Glastonbury, I'm going to bring that to the festival.

3:40

But obviously the other thing I want to do is, is like do the podcast live there and interview people on stage.

Now obviously there's only a handful of places that works, but at the theatre stage and things like that, there's so much of that stuff already going on.

3:56

I want to do that and I've good enough at this podcast to do that.

I've done live shows on like 3 occasions now.

It's me and my element and yeah, this is me talking out into the universe.

Let's do it.

Project Glastonbury 2027.

And I guess why we're on the subject of Project Glastonbury 2027.

4:14

We might as well talk line up because there's rumours knocking about and for the most part they're really, really exciting.

So let's blast off a couple.

Let's start with a biggie, Madonna.

I've genuinely been saying for years that I'd love, love to see Madonna at Glastonbury.

4:32

To me it seems pretty criminal that she's never been too bothered by it because she's so entrenched in British culture, particularly musical culture.

So it seems like such a sort of tick list for her to do that.

She's not done.

It seems bonkers to me.

Just imagine how class it would be, like hearing Vogue on the Pyramid Stage, All the girlies, all the gays, straight blokes letting loose be absolutely class.

4:56

Do I think it will happen?

I think this might be the year.

The signs are looking really good, new albums on the way, the big hint on Graham Norton.

I think it looked really likely about two or three years ago when Emily Evis went to watch Madonna at the O2, but it never really came to anything.

But I genuinely think it's going to be the year.

5:12

So Madonna, I think that's fucking locked him and I am well up for it.

You have a big one, Oasis.

Obviously it would be a dream to have Oasis headline the Pyramid Stage, but I don't see it at them.

5:31

I really don't.

I think those boys love getting paid too much and they just don't need to do it.

But I want them to want to do it.

Problem would be I think it would be the biggest ever crowd at the Pyramid stage and what the fucking listen to me.

5:48

I'm sort of worrying about half and safety logistics already and like how it will be.

But no, I mean fingers crossed it will happen.

I was lucky enough to see Oasis twice last year.

It was fucking glorious.

So fingers crossed they're up for it.

Let's see what happens.

6:04

Fred again, I was astounded he wasn't on the line up for last year's festival.

It really felt like that was his time and his moment.

I'm, you know, he gets a lot of slackness.

Fred again, some of it justified, a lot of it not.

And I think the guy's class.

6:19

I was lucky enough to go to Ali Palli, probably the second best out of the four nights I was there when the Streets performed.

And who else was there?

Orbital.

Orbital, Underworld.

Underworld was there and it was a pretty magical experience in all honesty.

6:38

Probably the best dance music experience I have ever had.

It was phenomenal in there.

It feels like the time's right.

There's a big crossover with what Fred does where like kids love it, Millennials love it.

Because that was quite representative of when I saw him.

Ali Pally Actually I thought it'd be all like posh 16 year old kids, like off their nut and KET.

6:57

And don't get me wrong, there was a bit of that, but it was quite a wide range demographic and that's kind of what you need in a festival headliner.

I think you can't just be too centred around one generation, even though that has happened before.

But I think that works best when you've got something that appeals to millennials, Gen.

7:17

Z, Boomer or two in there as well.

Dynamite and I think Fred will bring that.

So yeah, well up for that.

As I mentioned, Sam Fender, I really thought it was going to be his time last year.

I do like Sam.

I'm happy that a guy like him gets to have the career he's adds working class guy, come up the hard way, earn his place, no silver spoons.

7:42

And obviously he's really good at what he does.

I don't think it excites me as much as many other bands.

I'm never going to pay to watch Sam Fender.

Would I watch him at Glastonbury?

I'd be very surprised if there's not something else on the 99 bloody other stages that are on that aren't more appealing.

8:01

But I do want to see Sam headline the Pyramid Stage in a metaphorical sense.

I want him to do it.

I think it'd be really great for guitar music, just someone like him do that.

And he's more than earned his place thereafter, you know, filling out numerous stadiums over the last couple of years.

So Sam, I think it could be on then that leaves Harry Styles, doesn't it?

8:22

Harry fucking Styles, what a summer he's had.

And I can say this is the man that lives what about a mile and 1/2 from Wembley Stadium?

I think that'd be the same thing with like Sam Fender, where like I'm probably quite unlikely to go and watch that, but I think it'd be pretty class for him to do it.

8:39

And I think to have a guy like him pop star with quite a bit of crossover.

I think obviously more female leads, I think girlies and the gays.

But yeah, cool guy on definitely pro Harry Styles.

Let's see what he'd bring to the Pyramid stage.

Hey, and there's Taylor Swift, isn't there?

8:58

Yeah, there's Taylor Swift.

She was, of course, supposed to headline in 2020.

And it felt like during lockdown is when Taylor Swift became Taylor Swift.

It's mad to think like a couple of years ago.

It must have been 2018-2019.

My mate brought a ticket on the day to watch Taylor Swift and it was significantly less than face value mad.

9:21

So I had tickets for Glastonbury 2020 when Taylor was supposed to perform and I was really looking forward to it because that's another one I can't go to, you know, a Taylor Swift headline show at Wembley Stadium or whatever.

And I think that was sort of, it's always an opinion I had, but I sort of seeing all the clips on social media from when she was there a year or two back.

9:40

It's someone else's space and it means so much more to a fucking 17 year old girl that it would ever mean to me.

So like, I can't, can't take someone else's ticket.

But if she plays at Glastonbury I will be all over it.

Now.

9:56

My Swiftiness has been out-of-the-box for a little while now.

It was when her album Midnights came out and it beat Arctic Monkeys to #1 which is kind of annoying, but it was really good.

I was like, oh shit, Taylor Swift is class.

10:12

Loads of her stuff is absolute junk that I don't like, but the brilliant stuff is phenomenal.

So there you have it, the Taylor Swift secrets out the box.

I think she should headline.

I don't think she will, but man, that'll be quite something.

Yeah.

I wonder who would put a bigger crowd actually Oasis or Taylor Swift to the Pyramid Stage.

10:33

Guys first girls.

Tough one.

I think Oasis answer my own question.

The question Eminem has never headlined Glastonbury before.

I don't know, it's one that gets mentioned quite a bit, but I'm not sure how much interest there is from the evises on Eminem.

10:52

I think it'd be pretty sick if he sort of does what he's capable of doing and wasn't cringe and didn't call gay people the F word, but that's Eminem as it happens.

Actually I listen to the Slim Shady LP just this week.

11:08

Let me tell you, pretty disgusting in places but my God it is just phenomenal if you can put all the horrific things he set aside.

So funny, so likeable.

But obviously he wouldn't play like the Slim Shady LP in full or something called The Marshall Mathers LP.

11:25

It'll be a mixture of greatest hits over his fucking what, 30 year career?

So could be Fe.

And also like he barely plays live so I don't even know how good a live performer he is.

Could he bring the Pyramid stage to its fucking knees?

11:43

I don't know.

Like a well oiled machine.

Like for example the Foo Fighters.

They play those festival headline slots and those stadium shows day in day out and they're experts at what they do.

I don't know if Eminem is.

He barely plays.

So for that reason alone, I don't want Eminem to headline Glastonbury.

12:00

A name that never seems to get mentioned for Glastonbury that I think would be absolutely phenomenal is Robbie Williams.

But I don't even think there's a headliner.

I think penultimate or I think Sunday Legend slot.

12:17

Now normally the legend slot is played by someone that's 89 years old and on Dev's door.

Robbie isn't that.

He'd be one of the younger legends, but what a fucking set list he put together.

What a bad catalog that is, A man that's well oiled on the stage, knows what he's doing, knows exactly the right moment to get the crowd up and fucking.

12:38

So yeah, Robbie Williams at Glastonbury needs to happen.

It's been about 30 years since he last done it, so pull your finger out, Emily.

And then two bands that never get mentioned.

But it would feel like a big gaping hole in Glastonbury's genre gaps, I guess.

Is that a phrase that no, but Slipknot and Limp Bizkit need to play Glastonbury?

12:58

Now I'm not saying headline in the Pyramid stage, but penultimate, but on the other stage?

Maybe sunset slot at the other stage?

How absolutely sick would that be?

Now, I'm not a Slipknot fan, but I do love a spectacle.

What a spectacle that would be, man.

13:15

Just throwing a cat amongst the pigeons and letting this bedlam run loose.

Oh yeah, I mean, just fucking yes.

That'd be so sick.

And then Limp Bizkit, a band who have had quite the Renaissance in recent years.

I mean, they were a joke band for so long, the naffist cheesiest mother fuckers.

13:35

And now, look, they're sort of like filling stadiums like never before.

I can't speak for anyone else listening, but like whenever the algorithm produces a video of Limp Bizkit playing break stuff like OK if it's 1999 or 2026, I always always watch it.

13:53

Watching an entire arena front to back lose their shit.

I think.

Imagine that a Pyramid stage or the other stage.

So Limp Bizkit need to get a Glastonbury next year.

In fact I think more than anyone else.

Fuck I don't care about Oasis Limp Bizkit.

That's the band I want to see the most, a Glastonbury 2026.

14:12

So that's it.

That's a bit of Glastonbury gear, I guess for the content gods.

So yeah, there you have it, Project Glastonbury 2027.

I'm one of.

I'm definitely bringing this podcast to the festival next year.

I'm definitely deejaying somewhere at Glastonbury.

So if you're a festival Booker, you're out there.

14:28

Get in touch.

Let's make this happen.

I can bring a crowd to your stage.

Isn't that what we all really want?

So let's have a lovely time.

Let's hope the ticket gods are on side.

Let's hope Limp Bizkit perform.

It's up.

Taylor Swift performs.

It's up the way she performs.

So slip not performs.

14:44

That'd be sick.

Ever missed Madonna robbery?

Let's hope everyone performs and there's a lovely, lovely time on the greatest place on earth.

I'll be there, come hook or by crook.

Look forward to seeing you there.

I've been William Han, This has been a cheeky little project.

15:00

Glastonbury 2027 podcast.

Be lucky.

Be well, so well.
